California Glass Exchange 2012
November 10-11, 2012

This year the California Glass Exchange will be hosted at the Crucible in Oakland on November 10th and 11th, 2012. The event known as the “California Glass Exchange” (CGE) is hosted every few years at a California school that has a glass program in place and is a regional glass exchange of ideas and information. CGE offers students and local artists who might not be able to travel to distant Glass Art Society (GAS) meetings the opportunity to exchange ideas, meet other artists, and learn about new and exciting innovations in the glass art field. CGE is funded by contributions from conference admission, resources shared by various sponsoring institutions of learning, galleries, museums, studios both public and private, and the generous donations of time and expertise of the glass artists and the arts community.

The first CGE was cofounded at San Jose State University in 1984 by Glass Professor Dr. Fritz, and George D. Jercich and Jan L. Hagaman Jercich.  They conceived CGE as a forum for glass students, practitioners, collectors and educators in California who shared an interest in the medium of glass.

It has been an extremely rewarding experience to see how the Exchange has evolved as an exchange of ideas about glass and glass art on the West Coast.

The second CGE was held in Los Angeles at Harvard High School and Santa Monica Community College, the third in Oakland/San Francisco, CA at CCA and San Francisco State, the fourth at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CA. The fifth was held at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA and others at Cal State Fresno, Cal State Chico, Cal State San Bernardino and San Jose State/Ohlone College.

Some of these gatherings were convened twice at the above locations over a period of over 20 years from 1984 until 2008, missing a year now and again due to lack of a sponsor or the GAS conference meeting on the West Coast.
