{"id":134,"date":"2012-08-24T23:32:40","date_gmt":"2012-08-24T23:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.californiastudioglass.org\/?p=134"},"modified":"2012-11-07T14:44:03","modified_gmt":"2012-11-07T22:44:03","slug":"ed-kirshner-artist-bio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.californiastudioglass.org\/?p=134","title":{"rendered":"Ed Kirshner Artist Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Started working in glass in 1997 at California College of the Arts in Oakland, CA.<br \/>\n<\/strong><a title=\"Artist Website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aurorasculpture.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">www.aurorasculpture.com<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ed Kirshner of Oakland, California was born in New York City in 1940.\u00a0 He studied architecture and sculpture at Cornell University, the University of California at Berkeley and the Oskar Kokoschka School of Vision in Austria.\u00a0 After thirty years of developing and financing affordable housing, he returned to study art at the California College of the Arts in Oakland as well as at Pilchuck and Corning glass schools and Northlands Creative Glass in Scotland.\u00a0 His glass and gas plasma sculptures have been exhibited throughout the U.S. as well as in Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Austria, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Turkey. His work, \u201cCone of Chaos,\u201d was a Corning Glass selection and is included in Corning&#8217;s &#8220;25 Years of New Glass Review.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"size-large wp-image-157\" title=\"Fiery Bowl\">Ed\u2019s plasma sculptures are in the permanent collections of the diRosa Fine Arts Preserve in Napa, California, the Swiss National Science Center, Technorama, near Zurich and the Exploratorium in San Francisco.\u00a0 He has taught glass and gas plasma workshops in the U.S. as well as in Asia and Europe and is on the faculty of the Crucible Fire Arts School in Oakland and the Glass Furnace in Turkey.\u00a0 He has also been a Trustee and the Treasurer of the Museum of Neon Art (MONA) in Los Angeles and is currently on its Technical Advisory Board.
